M.I โ€“ Yxng Denzel Album Review

Artist: MI Abaga

Project Title: Yxng Denzxl

Label: Chocolate City Music Group

Duration: 39 minutes

Features: Odunsi, Lady Donli

The Lowdown: MI Abaga is probably the greatest Hiphop figure the continent has seen, after about a decade of genre dominance; but lately, his legacy has been heavily challenged with accusations of hypocrisy and treatment as a fallen hero; because he dared to raise the topic of the crumbling Nigerian Hip-hop empire. Yxng Denzxl is a 10-track, 39 minutes, โ€œDo You Know Who Youโ€™re Talking To?โ€ riposte.

The Good: In only 10 tracks, and not 17 or 20; the self-examination exercise evinces MIโ€™s positive contributions to the music scene โ€“ building a giant size music label, the opportunities created for creatives therefore, his pace setting Hip-hop career and more. The reflection is made to feel relatable in a way that is positively inciting and spurring.

The Bad: The only thing bad about the album is that it came after repeated shifts of release date. It was a torturous wait but the essential content of the project makes the wait worth it.

The Verdict: Yxng Denzxl is not the kind of album that would produce chart-topping music, or radio-popular songs but the areas it would gain popularity and appreciation in the circle of creatives, big-dreamers, leaders, icons and shapers of generations.

Essential Tracks: โ€œLast Night I Had A Dream About A Humming Birdโ€, โ€œAnother Thing Donโ€™t Be A Groupieโ€, โ€œYou Rappers Should Fix Up Your Livesโ€.
