Norman Black made a remarkable comeback as he guided Meralco to a 99-88 victory over San Miguel Beer in Game 2 of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Philippine Cup best-of-seven semifinals series on Friday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

With their veteran coach back on the bench, the Bolts played with fire, passion and intensity to win and avoid a dangerous 0-2 hole while turning the series into a best-of-five.

Veteran banger Cliff Hodge also showed his defensive prowess and lifted five Meralco cagers in double digits, including 17 markers and 14 rebounds that gave Black a warm welcome since he left the team on June 30 .

Aaron Black and Allein Maliksi each scored 15 points, Chris Newsome had 14 markers and nine rebounds, and defensive lineman Raymar Jose was a standout player with 13 points and four boards.

“Well, that’s something we always preach. We want everyone to participate as much as possible,” said Black, who left the coaching duties to assistant coach Luigi Trillo when he missed nine games in the Philippines’ crucial tournament series.

“It will be very difficult for teams to stop us if a lot of boys score goals. We have to continue to do that.”

“If we can’t predict how we score, it will be difficult to stop us.”

The Beermen even extended their aggression after Vic Manuel and Jericho Cruz hit 10 straight markers to win, 72-70, late in the third.

Fajardo’s strong performance of 22 points and 17 rebounds made up for it, while Lassiter had 16 points on 6-of-17 shooting for the Beermen, who look to make some significant changes when they rematch in Game 3 this Sunday. the same as Cubao.
