Californian moves to Texas and has lots of questions

Texans know everything is bigger in the Lone Star State, and a transplant from California is going viral on TikTok for documenting just how much fits that narrative.

“The sky is bigger here. The bugs are bigger here. My hair is bigger here,” TikToker Sam Speiller says in one of her videos that has been watched nearly 2.3 million times.

Speiller moved to Round Rock from California about a year ago, and she’s accumulated thousands of followers after posting updates on what she’s learned from living in Texas.

“The fall feels like summer. The spring feels like summer. The winter feels like summer. And the summer feels like hell,” she says with a straight face in a video that is part of her series called “Life in Texas.”

The other installments on her page are “How Texas Has Changed Me” and “Things in Texas That Still Confuse Me.”

“It’s been really, really fun and funny for me to experience people getting joy in my discovery,” said Speiller. “It’s really easy to do because it’s just what occurs to me throughout the day as I’m trying to cope with the high heat.”

She mentions condensation, bugs, freight trains and snakes in multiple videos – experiences Texans are all too familiar with.

“Welcome to Texas,” wrote one user with the name @mmh7680. “Everything you describe is absolutely true.”

Most of the responses she has gotten to her videos have been positive.

“It seems to have helped others sort of re-appreciate things that they just got used to,” Speiller said.

Many of the everyday things Texans know and love are things she’s discovered for the first time.

“I found God, and by God, I mean H-E-B, the best grocery store ever,” she says in another video.

Speiller hopes to continue documenting her experiences and newfound love for Texas.

“There’s still so much that I have to learn about my great new state,” she said.
