Kate Middleton gets a new royal title, once held by Prince William

Kate Middleton’s roles and responsibilities are adding on after King Charles III added a new royal title for the 40-year-old.

She currently holds the title of Princess of Wales with her husband Prince William as the Prince of Wales, titles once held by his late mother Princess Diana and his father.

Kate’s new title

It was reported on Thursday that Kate will take over the title of Colonel of the Irish Guards – a title held by her husband from 2011. William was previously given the role by the late Queen Elizabeth in February 2011, US Weekly reported.

Prince William will become Colonel of the Welsh Guards, while Camilla Parker Bowles, the Queen Consort accepted the duty of Colonel of the Grenadier Guards, an honour once held by Prince Andrew before he stepped down from official royal duties.

The parade

The announcements come as the King and the royal family prepare for next year’s Trooping the Colours parade, which will be the first public celebration of the new monarch’s birthday.

Buckingham Palace said in a statement: “In 2023, this impressive display of pageantry will take place on June 17 by regiments of the household division, on horse parade with his majesty the king and [who will be] taking the salute.”

Whilst the majority of the senior royals are expected to attend, it is unclear if Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will be in attendance.

The parade will occur 42 days after the King’s coronation, which is expected to be held on 6 May.

The royal couple, who left their senior royal duties in 2020, has continued to cause a storm after exposing how they felt betrayed by Kensington Palace, their own family members and the British media.

In the Harry and Meghan docu-series on Netflix, Prince Harry alleges he got into a “screaming match” with his brother and father over their decision to step back as senior members of the royal family.

Harry also claimed that his family were “happy to lie for William” to protect him rather than telling the truth.
