Keagan Dolly looking to be Chiefs’ Messi

The only real similarity you can draw between Kaizer Chiefs’ Keagan Dolly and Argentine star Lionel Messi is the fact that they both don the famous number 10 jersey, but only in Argentina for Messi as he took his old number 30 at Paris Saint Germain.

Dolly, who has been skippering Amakhosi this season in the DStv Premiership, would love to be mentioned alongside the talented Messi. The veteran attacker guided Argentina to Fifa World Cup glory last Sunday.

Upon arrival at training, Dolly was spotted in a jovial mood as he celebrated Messi’s success in the World Cup. The former Montpellier winger jokingly told his teammates that they should do the marking for him and pass him the ball, much like how Messi strolls on the park while defenders do the dirty work.

Meanwhile, the debate of who is the true ‘Goat’ (greatest of all time) between Messi and longtime rival Cristiano Ronaldo, seems to be a thing of the past in most parts of the world as the World Cup triumph saw the former Barcelona captain crowning what has been a trophy laden career.

Ronaldo has more career goals than Messi, sitting at an incredible 819 strikes as the all-time leading goalscorer, in comparison to Messi’s 672 — Brazilian football godfather Pele is said to have banged in 1283 goals but an huge chunk of those are believed to have been scored in unofficial matches.

There is a lot of fanfare around Messi, for obvious reasons, and reports have suggested that the Argentine government are considering putting their money where their mouth is. El Financiero reported that Messi’s face could be engraved on Argentina’s bank notes in the many efforts to honour him.

MESSI AVENUE

At the same time, Argentina fans have taken it upon themselves to rename a street in Buenos Aires to Messi Avenue. Even though this is not official, suggestions are rife that Messi might get a street named after him.

If Dolly wants to follow in Messi’s footsteps, he has a long way to go. When the Glamour Boys return to action in the DStv Premiership next week, Dolly is likely to lead Arthur Zwane’s side as captain in a match against Golden Arrows.

The Naturena-based outfit are sitting on position four, tied on 21 points with a resurgent SuperSport United.
