Peruvian Prime Minister Anibal Torres Vázquez resigned abruptly, becoming the fourth prime minister to resign in the past year.

Torres announced his resignation on Wednesday in a letter to President Pedro Castillo, saying his decision was for “personal reasons” and wishing his “friend” Castillo all the best.

In a letter he wrote on Twitter, Torres said: “I am resigning from this position after working with you, our country, especially those who have been forgotten.

According to Peruvian law, Castillo must accept or reject his resignation.

Castillo told local media on Thursday that the new Cabinet will take office on Friday.

“From today I will take decisions about the Cabinet. Let’s build a comprehensive cabinet that works,” said Castillo, constantly interrupted by reporters.

After nearly six months in office, Torres announced his resignation about a week into Castillo’s first year in office.

He accepted the post in February after former prime minister Hector Valère resigned amid allegations of domestic violence.

Valer, who has only been in office for four days, denied that.

Torres’ resignation comes as Castillo is also being pressured by the opposition to resign. Castillo is currently being investigated five times, four of which are being investigated for corruption.

On Thursday, Castillo went to the public prosecutor’s office with a team of his lawyers to testify about one of those allegations.

Castillo has previously admitted to wrongdoing and said he would be happy to cooperate with any investigation.

In his speech before Congress to celebrate Peru’s National Day on July 28, Castillo said, “I am trying to clarify the charges against me in relation to due process, not justice in the media. I will do it,” he said.
